Flamenco

,  the art of the Spanish gypsies, has attracted significant international interest since the early 1900s.

The 1960s and 1970s witnessed an unprecedented "foreign invasion" of committed and adventurous musicians venturing far from their homes and cultures to experience Flamenco first-hand in the pueblos of Andalucia. Many not only lived the life and studied the music, but also documented their experience at its heart and core with photographs, audio recordings and film. It was an extraordinary period of cross-cultural exchange made possible by the generosity and openness of many of the greatest Flamenco artists of the 20th Century.

The Flamenco Photo Project is dedicated to assembling, preserving and publishing these unique documents (The Collection) of that memorable time.

The Project is soliciting offers for exhibition and publication, and seeking a permanent institutional home for The Collection. It is also looking for foundation grants to support the continuing work.

El Flamenco

,  el arte de los gitanos españoles, ha atraído un considerable interés internacional desde principios del siglo XX.

Las décadas de los sesenta y los setenta vieron una "invasión extranjera" sin precedentes por parte de apasionados e intrépidos músicos que se aventuraron lejos de sus hogares y culturas para experimentar personalmente el Flamenco en los pueblos de Andalucía. Muchos no sólo vivieron la vida y estudiaron la música, sino que también documentaron su experiencia de la manera más esencial con fotografías y grabaciones de audio y película. Fue un período extraordinario de intercambios interculturales facilitados por la generosidad y el carácter abierto de muchos de los grandes artistas del flamenco del siglo XX.

El Proyecto de Fotografía Flamenca se dedica a recopilar, preservar y publicar estos documentos únicos (La Colección) de aquellos memorables tiempos.

El Proyecto está solicitando ofertas para su exposición y publicación, y buscando un hogar institucional permanente para La Colección. También está interesado en solicitar subvenciones de fundaciones para apoyar el continuo trabajo.
